Margaritas are my favorite

¡Buenas días amigos! This week was pretty long but very eventful. On Tuesday we picked up our greenie Elder Olsen and he’s from Heber. We’re in a trio and its sick but actually while we were about to leave the transfer building president called us. Immediately I thought, “I’m already getting emergency transfered????” I was bouta lose my mind. But we answered it and he told elder DeSpain he’s gonna leave for his original assignment (Spain Madrid) on March 16th. So that was super crazy. Not sure how things are gonna work out cause we’re the only elders in our district so he’s the District Leader and he’s leaving. Which leaves me to finish training Elder Olsen and I definitely don’t feel qualified haha but we’ll see how it goes.
Tuesday night we were able to have a lesson with a Part-member family and we gave 2 blessings. One of the blessings was for Sister Colvin. (From my last email I explained how she has custody of Damian who we’re teaching but his mom kidnapped him) so we blessed her with comfort and it was super cool.

Wednesday and Thursday were pretty boring because another ice storm hit so we were stuck inside all day both days. Basically just did Facebook work and a lot of studies. I think I studied the old testament from 9:00-1:00. Didn’t have anything better to do 🤷‍♂️ but I actually really enjoy personal study. I wish we got more than an hour a day.

Friday we had breakfast at the bangerters before mission conference and man was it treat. Hehe I feel kinda bad but it was hilarious. We talked with the bangerters and planned a prank for Elder Olsen. We had told him that they were an inactive family but love having the missionaries over. They lit a candle that was coffee scented so it smelled like they just made coffee. They had these plastic coffee cups but had hot cocoa in them. Brother bangerter was holding his “coffee” and I asked him about it and he made up some story about it being Mexican and his favorite or something. I took the cup from him and took a sip (Very good hot cocoa btw) They were like “ELDER!” And I just claimed I wanted to know what coffee tasted like haha. Fast forward like 30 min and Bro bangerter is talking about how they met at a club and stuff and had a margarita can in his hand and said, “let’s just say we had a lot of these that night” lifting the can. Somehow we brought up this “deal” that if I took a sip of it, they would come to church on Sunday. Keep in mind this can has been thoroughly cleaned and is filled with cherry soda. I made a lot of jokes about it and seemed super uneasy about it all. I just went for it and took a sip and they’re all like, “don’t worry we won’t tell your mission president” and stuff like that. Elder Olsen was pretty shocked at this point haha. Then somehow the deal changed that if Elder DeSpain took a sip too that they would come to church for 2 weeks in a row. He was honestly such a good actor and I didn’t even think he was gonna take a sip lol. I was just egging him on like, “it’s just one sip. It’s not gonna kill you. Elder you’re fine.” He finally took a sip and Elder Olsen just looked mortified. The day before we were literally talking about how obedient our mission was and now we’re consuming alcohol (at least he thought). Then sister bangerter told him and we explained everything and he just facepalmed 🤦‍♂️ He was so relieved when we explained it all haha. I told him when we first met him i was gonna “haze” him a lot. After we told him it was a prank he goes, “So this was hazing???” And I was like “yeah” lol I was dying laughing. He took it like a champ tho and it was super funny. Needless to say, I do feel bad I haven’t done anything to him since then haha. I’m not that mean. But it was super funny and we all had a good laugh.

Later that day we had a super cool lesson with Alfred. We meet everyday and it honestly is such a spiritual lesson every single time. We talked about the importance of the book of Mormon and watched a talk from president Nelson. He talked about the impact and blessings that can come from reading daily. It was super awesome and Alfred knows he needs to read the book of Mormon more and it was just super awesome. This week was filled with little spiritual experiences and it was very needed.

Saturday was the ward chili cook off!! They made us 3 the judges haha it was so fun! There was one Chili that has this unique sweet aftertaste and it was so good. It was a good time and I always love seeing the ward members and their families.

Sorry this email is pretty long but if you’ve made it this far I truly appreciate it. This week had its ups and downs but was very spirit filled. I truly am grateful to be a missionary and represent Jesus Christ. Though the toughest, the mission has been the greatest experience of my life. It’s crazy to think I’m already more than 1/4 way through the mission. I’m getting to a point where I really am grateful to be here and I’m enjoying the work and the people and the experience all together. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers not only for me but for the people we are teaching. It means more than you know. Alfred, Damian, and Sister Colvin are in need of your prayers. I also ask to keep the Gibb family in your prayers as well. Bless them to know that their Heavenly Father is watching over them. I love you all and hope you have an amazing week. Muchos Besos!!! And remember, God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good!!!
