A Child is Born

Wow wow wow. For starters, Elder Grubbs needs ALL the prayers he can get. This transfer I’m training!! I’m super excited but absolutely terrified. My Spanish isn’t terrible but I have a hard time understanding what people are saying and my vocabulary is very limited. So this transfer is definitely gonna be a tough one. I feel like I don’t even know the area or the members very well but oh well đź¤·

I also had an interesting spiritual experience last week. I listened to a few random talks and a BYU devotional NY Elder Holland and they were all about overcoming and working through our trials and afflictions. I just had this lingering feeling that I need to prepare for some tough trials ahead. Apparently I don’t have enough of those already. JUUUUST KIDDING! But I would have to assume these feelings correlate with me training this transfer.

ALSO last week in my email I talked about how I was asked to bear my testimony in sacrament meeting. I did and was just super embarrassed because of my Spanish and I just couldn’t express what I wanted to say in Spanish. But in Tuesday we went to the Serano families house. Hermana Serano was the one that came late and spoke after Elder Spencer. During dinner she shared a cool story. She explained that she takes her kids everywhere w her so they’re always in the car with her. She has a 3 month too. She went to some little custom shop and asked her friend there to watch her baby while she left for only like 30 min. She was just 3 minutes away from her house too, but she got in a car accident. She got hit and was propelled into 2 other cars. Those 2 cars happened to be US Marshals and they hopped out as fast as they could and ran to her because they saw all of her “baby on board” stickers. Luckily she didn’t have her children with her. She went to the ER and got x-rays and everything was fine. She didn’t break anything but had some tissue damage and was super sore in her neck and on her spine. So that’s why the bishopric didn’t know if she was going to speak or not. But this was the last week of summer and they had a vacation planned and other stuff and she was just super distraught because if everything that has happened. Fast forward to my testimony, she was actually sitting in the foyer listening. They asked Elder Spencer and her to talk about missionary work, but for some reason I didn’t bear my testimony on that. I talked about sacrifice, afflictions and trials and a little bit on Joseph Smith. But basically at dinner she was crying telling me that she wasn’t expecting me to share that and it was exactly what she needed to hear in that moment. So that was super cool to see the Lord working through my broken Spanish haha.

We spent a ton of time this week filming and editing the new video for the Spanish Mission Page. It was basically just the first Vision but I thought it was cool and turned out pretty good.

We had a lesson with CelĂa Friday night and Hermano Merino came with us. It was a super cool lesson and she is starting to understand what a prophet is and what it really means to have a living prophet on the earth today. Hermano Merino totally nailed it on the head. He explained that it doesn’t matter how much we read or listen to us, the only way you’re going to know if something is true is if you asi Heavenly Father yourself. He went off talking about how important prayer is and it was super cool.

Saturday night Hermana Ramirez came out with us for some stopbys and it was so fun. She is just a spiritual fireball. We tried to stop by this one lady, Maribel, but there were guys outside drinking and said she was at work. Hermana Ramirez started a convo and one of the guys tried to make jokes and stuff but she wasn’t having it. She was like, “let me sit down and we’ll talk” then whe sat down on one of the chairs, took her shoes off and started talking about the Gospel haha. It was pretty awesome.

Spiritual Thought:

Elder Holland:

“We don’t know why all of the things that happen to us in life happen, why sometimes we are spared a tragedy and sometimes we are not. But that is where faith must truly mean something, or it is not faith at all.”

Sister Holland:

“Faith isn’t really faith if you have anything else to hold on to.”

I love you all and hope you’re doing well!! Again I ask for you prayers because I am terrified to lead the area haha. But I know that my faith and trust in the lord will strengthen. I know that Heavenly Father will give us trials that we don’t always know why, but they will help us change and grow to be the person he knows we can become. Muchos besos! And remember, God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good!

Love

Elder Grubbs
