You’re Praying to WHO??

Only one more week of the transfer!! I can’t believe how fast this transfer has gone. Some days are insanely slow but usually the weeks go by pretty fast.

Last Monday we had zone pday and that was a ton of fun. We all brought our hotwheels and did some trades. No matter how hard I tried, Elder Romans wouldn’t trade his 4runner. But that’s okay haha.

Tuesday we went on exchanges and I was with Elder Wait. It was definitely good for me haha. That night was super sick. So there’s this guy that is inactive but actually served in the Texas Dallas mission and absolutely loved his mission. He loves the missionaries and has a super strong testimony. So he came out with us for some lessons and stop-bys. Elder Wait said the next house was an inactive member and then he goes, “Bringing an inactive to an inactive? You know better than that Elder.” It was so funny. But he was super cool and has so many stories from his mission. It was really good for us and I think good for him too to feel the spirit again. He did so many pranks on greenies that were just beyond terrible😂 The mission president was definitely called on multiple occasions.

One prank he did was hid in their big closet with the lights off and had hung pictures of Joseph Smith all over the walls. When the new Elder found him in the closet, he was kneeling with a candle surrounded by pictures of Joseph Smith. He was like, “Elder what are you doing????” To which he replied calmly, “Shh Elder it’s okay Im just praying to Joseph Smith” and then the greenie was like “What NO!! You cant do that!!!” And his response was, “shhhh, Elder it’s okay you’ll understand eventually.” I literally died when he told us this story. The mission president was called shortly and had a nice talk with him haha.

We had dinner with the Guzmans which was really good. They weren’t done cooking when we got there so we just watched lego ninjago with Paulo haha. That was a blast from the past.

We helped some members move this week but when they were driving away back to their house, they forgot to lock the ramp on the back of the moving truck. So as she sped up the ramp would slide out sticking out like 12 feet behind the truck. Luckily we stayed behind them instead of someone else. We were waving and honking and doing everything we could to get her attention but I guess they couldn’t see or hear us. We got to their house which wasn’t very far at all and thankfully nothing happened and nobody got hurt.

Saturday we had like 4 lessons cancel. We had a member coming with us but she wasn’t answering her phone at all so we had the first 2 lessons but nobody answered. I realized we hadn’t said a prayer yet so I pulled over and we prayed. Not even 2 minutes after the prayer, our member called us saying she lost track of time but was on her way to our next lesson. All of our lessons ending up falling through but it was still a cool miracle to see God answer our prayers. Especially when it was that quickly haha. That doesn’t happen all too often but I was grateful to have seen that tender mercy.

Sunday I got to listen to my cousin Megan give her farewell talk!! It was so fun listening to her speak and listen to the other speakers talk about her a little bit. She has such a sweet spirit and she’s gonna be such an amazing missionary. I was sad I wasn’t able to be there but I was so glad I was able to join the Zoom call and still be a part of it.

This week I have been trying to study on how to gain a testimony. There are some missionaries I know that struggle with their testimonies and I wanted to see how I could help them. Elder Uchtdorf gave a beautiful talk in October 2006 “The Power of a Personal Testimony”. He listed 4 ways we can gain or strengthen our testimonies.

1.) Desire to believe (Alma 32:27)

2.) Search the scriptures (Alma 32:28)

3.) Do the will of God; keep the commandments (John 7:16-17)

4.) Ponder, fast, pray (Moroni 10:3-5) (Alma 5:45-46)

“A testimony is a most precious possession because it is not acquired by logic or reason alone, it cannot be purchased with earthly possessions, and it cannot be given as a present or inherited from our ancestors. We cannot depend on the testimonies of other people. We need to know for ourselves.

We receive this testimony when the Holy Spirit speaks to the spirit within us. These promptings of the Spirit, rather than human logic alone, will be the true foundation upon which our testimony will be built.

A testimony provides proper perspective, motivation, and a solid foundation on which to build a life of purpose and personal growth. It is a constant source of confidence, a true and faithful companion during good times and bad. A testimony provides us with a reason for hope and gladness.”

I love that last phrase, “A testimony provides us with a reason for hope and gladness.” As we strive to grow a testimony and strengthen it, we will be able to have more hope and more gladness in this life. But a testimony isnt gonna come all easy. It’s not until after the trial of our faith do we receive . Just like Galations 6:7, the effort we put in will be equal to the results we seek. Elder Uchtdorf quoted that no good thing comes without effort and sacrifice.

I am grateful to be able to say that I have received divine revelation that Jesus is the Christ. That this is his church restored in it’s fullness on the earth again. I have a firm conviction that Russell M. Nelson is our living prophet. That he holds the power and priesthood keys to guide and direct the church. I encourage you to ponder on the testimony that you have right now. Assess where your doubts are. Put forth the effort to strengthen your testimony. Ask Heavenly Father for his help and divine direction. I know that as you follow those 4 steps Elder Uchtdorf listed, you will receive a testimony, you will come to know that Christ lives, and the testimony that you already have will become stronger and unshaken.

I love you all very much and hope your week was amazing. Have faith, give love, and share your testimony. Muchos besos!! And remember, God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good!!

All my love

Elder Grubbs
