The Rains came down and the Floods came up

Anotha week in good ol Rowlett. On Tuesday we came home to 3 fire trucks, 4 ambulances, and multiple fire/police vehicles at our apartment complex. We had no idea what was going on. We talked to one of our neighbors and turns out there was a fire on the 3rd floor. Everybody was fine and you couldn’t even tell there was a fire. But it was cool to see all the fire trucks and stuff haha.

Wednesday we had another “park your car day” mission wide. Elder Reed was NOT a fan 😂 We biked out to Garland and had a few stop bys but nothing special

Thursday we had a cool miracle. There was this person that was interested in English classes so we decided to stop by. We talked to this lady about English classes and how we’re missionaries and share messages about Jesus Christ. She said we could come back and share a message but we were looking for a Carolina and her name was Francisca. We got in the car and of course knowing me, I didn’t check the house number and knocked on the wrong house. BUT she happened to be a former (so she was taught in the past). So that was super cool seeing God use my imperfections to further progress the work. God surely works in mysterious ways.

We had another lesson with Celia which was good cause we had a member but I was just kinda upset with my Spanish. I understood her questions I just didn’t know what to say or how to say it. It was just discouraging but thats just how it goes.

I was assigned to edit our new video for the mission Spanish page. It was a little intimidating because it will be the new pinned video which means it will be the first video you see when you click on our page. So i was a lil stressed but then I almost had a heartattack. So the videos I was using were clips taken on a camera and were super high resolution. This meant they were very large files and took up a lot of space on my phone, thus making it slower. I went through and deleted them so my phone would be faster, but when I clicked on the app that I used to edit, it said the files couldn’t be found. So rather than making copies of the videos, it uploaded straight from my gallery. I was a little scared but not too worried because I knew I could just go into recently deleted and restore them. I go and select all the videos and restore them, but when I went back to my gallery, only 3 videos were there. I went back to recently deleted to see if maybe it didn’t restore them, but they weren’t there either. Basically I thought some glitch happened and those videos were permanently deleted. I was beyond devastated. I had probably spent close 6 hours editing this video all throughout my dinner hour, after 9:00 and so forth. It was also due that day too. So I was freaking out thinking about staying up all night to remake the video. Thankfully I restarted my phone and the videos showed up on gallery. Hallelujah! Prayers answered!

We stopped by our friend Adolfo and he wasn’t home. But we just sat in the car doing some calls and then he pulled up. So we talked to him and it was good but just a little sad. He loves talking with us and is super nice but because his wife is like insanely catholic, he can’t be reading from the BOM or meet w us when she’s home. So basically because of his wife, he’s not in a position to learn about the Gospel. It just kinda broke my heart because he has such a light about him but he can’t continue to meet with us. I made him a deal and gave him a Restoration pamphlet. I told him to read it but pray before and after doing so. Then to recognize how he felt in that moment. He said he would do that and wanted to give us a call the following day and talk a little but. He didn’t end up calling us but I hope he had the chance to read and recognize the spirit. Especially because I felt the spirit as I was talking with him and I wanted him to feel that too.

Sunday we had English classes and it was so fun. Every time we have class I have so much fun and I love the people that come. Yesterday during the class it just made me ponder on how much I love their culture and love them. I was able to recognize in that moment that I was genuinely happy. It helped me to get a taste of Charity the pure love of Christ. They kept telling us how grateful they were for us and it was just a lot of fun. Plus we always have a good gospel discussion after class and everyone stays and the spirit is always so strong.

Foe my Spiritual thought I just wanted to share 2 quotes. The first being one directed towards other missionaries and missionary work, and the other directed towards comfort and the atonement

“Nephi teaches us, ‘when a man speaketh by the power of the Holy Ghost the power of the Holy Ghost carrieth [the message] unto the hearts of the children of men’. Please notice how the power of the Spirit carries the message unto but not necessarily into the heart. A teacher can explain, demonstrate, persuade, and testify, and do so with great spiritual power and effectiveness. Ultimately, however, the content of a message and the witness of the Holy Ghost penetrate into the heart only if a receiver allows them to enter”

-David A Bednar

“Everything in the gospel teaches us that we can change if we need to, that we can be helped if we truly want it, that we can be made whole, whatever the problems of the past”

-Jeffrey R Holland
