A long way from Tyler

Howdy howdy!!! First week in McKinney down! It’s definitely gonna take awhile for me to adjust to this change. I think just because this transfer was so unexpected makes it even harder for me to adjust. I’m happy to be in a Spanish area before I go home but it’s really hard leaving all my mission friends and the relationships I made on Tyler. I’m just trying to figure out why the Lord needs me here in McKinney. My new apartment is definitely different than my last. We live with the other Spanish Elders and both of them and my companion all came out together. They’ve been out about 8 months so they’re all pretty young. I am actually the tallest in the apartment which is really weird lol.

My first full day here we packed our day with 4 hours of service spread out throughout the day. We helped at Salvation Army, this one dude from Lebanon paint his ceiling and then we went to the food pantry.

Thursday consisted of lots of planning and meetings. We are the Spanish Facebook Reps in the zone which kinda blows but it’ll keep us busy so that’s good I guess. These will probably be the longest 2 transfers of my life.

Friday we had mission conference but President and sister seitz weren’t there for some reason so it wasn’t as good. I was looking forward to their trainings so it was kinda sad not hearing from them. After mission conference we went to help the other McKinney district move out someone they’re teaching. It was actually pretty fun though. She had a big ol cat that I held and played with and she only scratched me once!

After our service some Hermanas from the Dallas West mission called us saying they had a referral. But this wasn’t just some random dude they’re teaching. He has been taught everything and come to church a lot and is literally on date for next week. He randomly moved to McKinney so the Hermanas had to pass him off to us. His name is Abñer and he is super cool!!

After dinner we street contacted around an apartment and talked with a few cool people. One couple spoke English and Spanish but we spoke in Spanish to practice haha. It was cool tho and it was fun talking with them. It’s still weird speaking Spanish again. I’m super rusty but things are starting to come back. It’s still hard for me to understand people but hopefully I’ll be good in a week or 2

Saturday morning we did service for a lady next to Elder Allgaier and Elder Thompson’s apartment. We put in edging for a flower bed. I found a little baby rat snake too!

Then that night we had a video call lesson with the West Hermanas and Abñer. It was actually a super sick lesson. We went over the baptismal questions and helped reassure him. He is totally ready but worries about making covenants and then messing up. The spirit was super strong and he testified about the book of mormon and the gospel. This week has been pretty rough for me but during that lesson talking about covenants and what not it comforted me a ton. A lot of what was said was just what I needed to hear.

Sunday was good to meet everyone in the branch but I was fighting to stay awake during sacrament meeting. It was a good meeting though and in Elders Quorum we talked about Elder Gongs talk from last conference. I was able to understand everything which made me really happy.

I don’t have a ton of time but I just wanted to express my gratitude for all my friends and family that read my emails and support me so much. It’s been a tough week and being able to read y’alls emails has helped me a lot. I’m so grateful for your love and appreciation. One of my best friends wrote me a letter to open when I had a bad day. This week I opened it and it helped me so much. God has placed some amazing people in my life that have helped me more than they’ll ever know. Here is a quote that helped me a lot this week and hopefully can help you when you need it

“Wherever you are, whatever your circumstances may be, you are not forgotten. No matter how dark your days may seem, no matter how insignificant you may feel, no matter how overshadowed you think you may be, your Heavenly Father has not forgotten you. In fact, He loves you with an infinite love.” -Elder Uchtdorf

I love you all and hope you have an amazing week! Te quiero más chao! Muchos besos! And remember, God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good ✊❤️

All my love,

Elder Grubbs
