A New Adventure

Wow what a week for Elder Grubbs. I got transfered to Rowlett Texas

🙌

Our area also covers Rockwall part if Garland and all the way out to Royce City. There’s a Spanish Ward here which is crazy because I’m used to a Spanish group of only like 10 people. The members seem really cool and I’m excited to get to know them.

Tuesday was so sad saying goodbyes. Elder Speyer, Allen, and Thomas went home which is so crazy. It sucked saying goodbye to them. It felt like yesterday Elder Speyer told me he had 5 transfers left. Wild.

We have a gym!!!! I can’t tell you how much of a blessing that is. It feels soooooooo good to workout in a gym again.

Rowlett is a whole different world. Like we may have gotten rejected like 2 times. It is insane how fast we find people. Everyone seems so nice here. Not a ton of people are super interested but a lot of people will just talk with us which is weird haha.

We talked with this lady named Cynthia who is super elect. She told us how she reads the Bible and named her 3 sons Isaac, Isaiah, and Israel. Yeah crazy!! She’s super cool and wants to learn more about Covenants!!

Wednesday night we met Brenda who was super cool. We knocked a door that was someone we taught in the past but it turned out to be Brenda. She said she already had a church and didn’t really care for us or our message. Before we left we asked if anybody was struggling or needed a message of hope and peace in their life. She said “actually yeah, we are” she then told us how her grandpa just that day or the day before found out he has a very large brain tumor. He basically raised her so he’s like her dad. She was crying and super distraught. She said she wasn’t able to cook or clean or get out of bed or anything to help her kids. She was also sad on top of that because she knows he doesn’t believe in God and was worried about the afterlife. So we taught her about the spirit world and how he will still have the opportunity to learn about the Gospel. It was super cool and when we met with her a couple days later she said she was doing super good and knows it’s just in God’s hands and she needs to trust him. It was pretty cool

We also met with Mike who was on date for baptism like next week but we had to push it back a few weeks because he’s super busy right now and a family member is getting surgery. But he’s super cool and insanely prepared for baptism. Elder Spencer said he’s “stake president material” and I thought that was a pretty dang bold statement. But when I met with Mike I totally saw it. He is super wise and would teach us lessons and things he has learned that completely aligns with the church. He’s sooooo dope.

We knocked this one house looking for Jose and Gustavo but this middle aged white dude named Vick answered the door and said “English please?” He ended up talking to us for like an hour and half. He broke his arm (radius) because he was riding a motorcycle with a big cloak/trench-coat and it got caught in the sprocket and threw him off the bike. Pretty crazy story. But he was hilarious, cracking jokes left and right. He was a cool dude.

That same night we had a super cool experience. We met these 3 guys who were outside drinking and listening to music. We got talking to them and one of them (Miguel) knows English but the other 2 don’t. Elder Spencer was talking to him about his experience learning English and how God helped him. Then I was talking to the other 2 dudes and it was super cool. One of them has like 8 kids back in mexico with his wife and he’s up here working. He then said that I was going to talk to him in Spanish and he would talk to me in English so we could practice haha. Then he would point to a body part like his mouth and say boca (which is mouth in Spanish) and then I would tell him what it was in English. So we went through pointing at things telling each other what it was. It was super cool and restored my faith in humanity a bit haha. It was just nice to see someone patient and having compassion on me.

Saturday I spotted this kid hop on a pretty big dirt bike and ride away so I walked over and spoke with his dad. He’s like 15 and he buys bikes, fixes them up, and sells them. Right now he was fixing a kawasaki 450 4 stroke that had some carburetor problems. He asked me if I wanted to give it a spin. It was very tempting… but even if I was allowed to ride it, I would not be able to handle a 450 😂 it was cool talking with them though and just having a normal natural conversation

This email was pretty last minute and my thoughts are so sporadic right now so I apologize! But spiritual thought, Elder Richard G Scott taught that adversity can help stimulate necessary growth in our lives. He says, “May I share some suggestions with you who face … the testing that a wise Heavenly Father determines is needed even when you are living a worthy, righteous life and are obedient to His commandments.       “Just when all seems to be going right, challenges often come in multiple doses applied simultaneously. When those trials are not consequences of your disobedience, they are evidence that the Lord feels you are prepared to grow more (see Proverbs 3:11–12). He therefore gives you experiences that stimulate growth, understanding, and compassion which polish you for your everlasting benefit. To get you from where you are to where He wants you to be requires a lot of stretching, and that generally entails discomfort and pain”

I hope you all have an amazing 4th of July and an amazing week. I love you and constantly praying for you. Muchos besos! And remember, God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good!!

Love

Elder Grubbs
